projects smojects

Well things are really moving along. This was the last week on the Birmingham Fam build (aka my sister's house), and they close this morning! Here is a little more progress with paint, etc... I am so obsessed with my nephew's shower - have always wanted to do the white subway with dark grout!

And in a wildly different look, my client finally got her mirrors and rugs in! The matching chandelier will be in front of this mirror so the two rooms will echo each other, and I will do black shades on the chandeliers, I think. Chairs are being ordered now - we are hoping to have these two rooms done by Christmas!

Happy weekend!

cool love rings

I call these love rings because even if you already have your wedding rings, I think these would be great love gifts for your right hand. And if you don't, I think these make spectacularly interesting and unique engagement rings. Bring on the bling!

black house

Would you ever consider painting the outside of your house black? I think there is something mysterious and welcoming about it. Of course all of these black houses are in cold climates and it really wouldn't work here in the hot South, but I especially love it with the fog and snow rolling in or with the pale blue door...

perfection

Remember the Alexander Wang leopard wedge from a couple seasons ago?? It never dropped into my price range, even on Ebay! Well, you can thank Zara for this perfect look alike - $159 bucks of lovely.

Birmingham Fam Lighting...

Here is another taste of my sister's Birmingham house project! Some of the lighting in the house - even though we had to use some big box store fixtures (Ballard and Restoration Hardware) to save our budget, I think it still makes a home look special when you choose your own fixtures to go with your decor, instead of just living with plain contractor installed lighting. Even a $20 paper lantern looks amazing when you thoughtfully choose to use it. Hard to believe they are moving in soon - one more week! What do you think of our lighting?

happiness is...

Pure happiness for me would be a house/backyard covered in virginia creeper - walking out straight into a black bottom salt water pool. Yummy.

two things

Loving this simple tub with huge mirror - I saw this large carved mirror yesterday and it is only $500 bucks. Someone should whitewash it and do this now.

Also, my wicker table finally came in and it is waaaay too orange for my rug and apartment colors. Should I paint it black? Happy Friday, friends...

production problems

Just got my new Elle Decor in the mail and tore into it right away. I was super excited to see the beach houses of two people I am obsessed with - Ralph Pucci and Athena Calderone...however, there were several production problems with this issue that really bothered me. There were pages missing (58-74!) and out of place, many blurry photos, and most of all I hate it when the article mentions a special room or piece and then they don't show a photo of it. In Ralph Pucci's house they only showed the clean, minimalist (read ho-hum) outside and living room. They spoke of a gorgeous dark wall in the bedroom with an overlay and then didn't show the master bedroom at all.

Sandra Lee's house is one of the most boring I have ever seen, with super low ceilings - the way they photographed it made it look like a dollhouse with oversized furniture. And her portrait with her COCKATOO on the cover makes me very sad. Why not a photo of her family?

Maybe mine was one of a bad batch...hope yours is better.

P.S. Still love Athena Calderone.

P.P.S - Got an email from the publication's marketing dept today - they are sending me another copy. They are really on the ball over there to have spotted this tiny blog complaint and they took care of it immediately. Kudos to Elle Decor!

Love in the kitchen

Always been a fan of Windsor Smith's black kitchen. Would probably change the chairs and light fixtures, but not much else. Do you love it?

house progress

Hard to believe that my sis will be moving in this house in two weeks! The team at Twin Construction in Birmingham, Alabama has been amazing - they move so fast - and everyone there is not only nice but gorgeous! It makes going out to the work site a real thrill... heehee Here we are in the middle stages a couple of weeks ago... this week they are working on floors (again) and countertops are already in and lighting up - can't wait to see it complete!
